SEG Solar’s First High-Efficiency N-Type Solar Cell Rolls Off the Production Line at Indonesian Industrial Park
Batang, Central Java, Indonesia – April 29, 2025 (local time) – SEG Solar, a leading U.S.-based photovoltaic (PV) module manufacturer, held a ceremony to mark the successful roll-out of its first high-efficiency N-type solar cell at its smart manufacturing plant in Batang, Central Java, Indonesia. The commissioning of the plant’s first production line signals the full-scale operational launch of the project’s first phase.
Since breaking ground on September 30, 2024, the SEG Indonesia plant has completed factory construction, production line commissioning, and the initial production of high-efficiency solar cells within just seven months. This efficient and orderly process showcases SEG’s exceptional project management capabilities and strong execution efficiency. The rapid, high-quality delivery—dubbed “SEG Speed”—is a testament to the company’s global strategy and robust supply chain integration.
The newly launched product is SEG’s self-developed high-efficiency N-type solar cell, with an average conversion efficiency of 26.4%, offering excellent output power and stability. The plant’s first phase includes four production lines with a total capacity of 2 GW. In particular, the screen printing process uses innovative double-sided alternating printing equipment, achieving an average cycle time (CT) of 0.75 seconds per cell—20% faster than traditional industry standards. Additionally, a disruptive, industry-first sintering process boosts absolute conversion efficiency by 0.3%.
Looking ahead, the cell plant is set to expand to an annual capacity of 5 GW and will further develop a fully vertically integrated industrial chain covering silicon rods, wafers, solar cells, and modules. With upstream and downstream synergy, SEG will provide cleaner, traceable green products to markets in the U.S., Europe, and Indonesia.
The Batang Industrial Park is a key national strategic project and the largest KEK (Special Economic Zone) in Indonesia, having already attracted enterprises across various industrial sectors. SEG’s solar cell factory is one of the first PV projects to be launched and put into operation in the park. Its successful commissioning offers a replicable model for attracting more PV manufacturers and enhances the park’s industrial cluster effect.
As a vital component of SEG’s global expansion, the completion of the Indonesia cell plant marks a significant move from module production into upstream solar cell manufacturing. SEG will continue to deepen local partnerships and strengthen technological innovation, working with global partners to accelerate the energy transition worldwide.
