Industry Voices Come Together at SEG Solar Factory Opening

TOMBALL, Texas, August 7, 2026— SEG Solar (“SEG”), a leading U.S. solar module manufacturer, welcomed leaders from across the solar industry, economic development organizations, workforce agencies, certification bodies, media outlets and the broader business community to celebrate the opening of its second U.S. manufacturing facility in Tomball, Texas. The event brought together diverse perspectives on domestic solar manufacturing, workforce development, supply chain resilience and the future of American clean energy.

Opening the ceremony, Jim Wood, CEO of SEG Solar, reflected on the company’s growth journey and emphasized that understanding and meeting customer needs has been the foundation of SEG’s success. With the new facility coming online, SEG’s total manufacturing capacity will reach 6 GW, further strengthening its position as a leading FEOC-compliant manufacturing and supply chain partner in the U.S. solar market. Wood added that SEG remains committed to providing reliable products and long-term support that enhance project bankability and give customers greater confidence from financing through project execution.

Timothy Johnson, Vice President of Operations at SEG Solar, provided an inside look at the development of the Tomball facility, highlighting the disciplined execution required to bring the project to completion. He credited close coordination among design, procurement and construction teams, along with rigorous schedule management, budget control and an unwavering commitment to safety, for ensuring the facility was production-ready on time. Johnson noted that the team’s ability to adapt construction plans while maintaining quality and pace demonstrates SEG’s ability to execute at scale and provides a strong foundation for future manufacturing growth.

Representing the customer perspective, Natasha Cherenkova, Senior Vice President of DEPCOM Power, emphasized the importance of trusted domestic manufacturing partnerships. She cited SEG’s professionalism, technical expertise, proactive communication and project delivery experience as key factors behind the collaboration and expressed confidence in expanding the partnership to support efficient solar project deployment across the U.S. market.

The broader economic impact of the facility was highlighted by regional business leaders. Bobby Lieb, CEO of the Northwest Houston Chamber of Commerce, praised SEG’s continued investment in the region, noting that the company’s expansion reflects confidence in both Texas’ business environment and workforce. He said the facility is expected to create high-skilled jobs, support supply chain growth and contribute to the broader resurgence of American manufacturing. Lieb added that the Chamber will continue working alongside government and industry partners to strengthen the local business environment and help position Houston as a leading clean energy manufacturing hub in North America.

Craig Rhodes, Senior Vice President of the Greater Houston Partnership, described the opening as an important milestone in Houston’s ongoing energy transition. He noted that the project represents a meaningful step toward a more diversified regional energy economy and emphasized that the Greater Houston Partnership will continue supporting connections between SEG, local suppliers and research institutions as the region builds a stronger solar manufacturing ecosystem. Rhodes added that SEG’s decision to expand in Houston reflects the city’s growing reputation as a center for industrial innovation and advanced manufacturing.

Workforce development emerged as another key theme throughout the event. Juliet Stipeche, Executive Director of the Gulf Coast Workforce Board, announced plans to deepen collaboration with SEG through workforce training and talent development initiatives designed to equip local residents with the skills needed for careers in advanced manufacturing. She noted that these efforts will support the facility’s long-term workforce needs while creating lasting economic opportunities within the community.

Industry experts also underscored the importance of quality, compliance and transparency in supporting the continued growth of domestic solar manufacturing. Paul Wormser, Senior Vice President of Technology, Intertek, emphasized that confidence in the solar industry must be built on a foundation of independent third-party verification. He said SEG’s proactive adoption of independent inspection and verification programs demonstrates leadership while helping establish a higher benchmark for quality and trust across the U.S. solar manufacturing sector.

Reflecting on SEG’s rapid expansion, Nico Johnson, Founder and CEO of SunCast Media, noted that the company has continued to execute while much of the industry remains focused on debating the future of domestic manufacturing. Having attended multiple SEG factory openings, Johnson said the company’s growth demonstrates the determination and execution required to build solar manufacturing capacity in the United States. He described SEG as a representative industry leader with a true “builder’s mentality,” turning vision into tangible results.

Closing the event, Jun Zhuge, Founder and COO of SEG Solar, shared the company’s five-year growth roadmap. He noted that Factory 2 is currently completing production line installation and is expected to begin commercial operations in the third quarter of 2026, while Factory 3 is already under construction and scheduled to begin production in May 2027. Jun also highlighted SEG’s ongoing evaluation of opportunities for domestic solar cell manufacturing and outlined plans for the company’s Indonesia solar industrial park, which by 2027 is expected to feature an integrated ingot-to-cell manufacturing base. The company also plans to develop HJT cell production capabilities as part of its broader vision to build a vertically integrated supply chain spanning ingots, wafers, cells and modules while maintaining a long-term commitment to the U.S. market.

Throughout the event, speakers highlighted a common goal: strengthening the foundations of domestic solar manufacturing through investment, innovation, workforce development and supply chain collaboration.
