  • Solar panel issues are uncommon — and most system problems are not caused by the panel itself.

If your solar system is not producing as expected, the solar module is usually not the cause.

In many cases, system performance issues are related to other parts of the system or site conditions, including:

    • inverter issues

    • wiring or connector problems

    • damaged cables

    • installation-related issues

    • shading

    • dirt, debris, or bird droppings

    • animal damage

    • monitoring or communications faults

Solar module failure is very low, and when a module defect does occur, it usually becomes apparent early in the life of the system.

  • Start with a qualified solar service company

If your installer is no longer in business, the first step is to contact a qualified solar service company or licensed solar contractor to inspect the system.  A trained technician should evaluate the full system before any conclusion is made about the solar panel.

  • What should be checked first

Before a module warranty claim is submitted, the servicing company should review common non-module causes, including:

    • inverter operation

    • system wiring and connectors

    • visible cable damage

    • module soiling or shading

    • animal or environmental damage

    • monitoring data and system performance history

    • installation and balance-of-system conditions

  • If the service company believes a module is the issue

If a qualified solar company determines that a SEG module may be defective, they should document their findings and perform the testing needed to support a warranty review.  SEG will work with the servicing company to review the claim and process any valid module warranty claim in accordance with SEG’s limited warranty terms.

  • Information we may request

To review a module warranty claim, SEG may request:

    • module serial numbers

    • photos and videos

    • site and array information

    • installation details

    • system performance data

    • test results from the servicing contractor

    • proof of purchase or project information, if available

  • Important notice

SEG Solar’s warranty applies to the solar module itself.  SEG Solar is not a full-system warranty nor a field service provider. We do not troubleshoot or warranty:

    • inverters

    • optimizers

    • wiring

    • racking

    • monitoring equipment

    • third-party installation work

    • general system performance issues unrelated to the module itself

  • Need warranty support?

Please have your qualified solar service company or licensed contractor contact SEG Solar with the supporting documentation for review.
